A plugin launcher for Space Engineers

More plugins. Less setup.

SE Launcher installs once, then starts Space Engineers from Steam as usual. It manages your plugins in-game, keeps them up to date, and prepares the game ahead of time so repeat launches are quicker.

Windows installer and Linux AppImage. A Steam copy of Space Engineers is required.

The short version.

Everything here is something you would otherwise do by hand: wire the loader into Steam, find plugin files, chase dependencies, and update each piece yourself.

Setup

Install once. Then launch from Steam.

Run the installer, paste one launch option into Steam, and keep using the Play button. The launcher sits between Steam and the game without replacing game files.

Plugins

Add plugins without the DLL shuffle.

Open the plugin list in-game, install what you want, and let the launcher resolve the rest. Remove a plugin from the same list when you are done.

Less time waiting to play.

The launcher precompiles game code before Space Engineers starts and reuses the cache on later launches. If preparation fails, the game still starts normally.

Everything stays current.

The launcher updates itself and your plugins before the game opens. Pick stable or preview, and turn updates off when you want a frozen install.

You press Play. It does the rest.

Updates, preparation and plugin loading happen before Space Engineers opens. There is no second program to open first.

  1. 01Update

    Check everything

The launcher and your installed plugins look for newer versions.

    Up to date
  2. 02Prepare

    Warm the game

Game code is prepared once and cached for the next launch.

    Ready
  3. 03Load

    Bring up plugins

Your plugins, their settings and dependencies load in order.

    Plugins loaded
  4. 04Play

    Open the game

Space Engineers starts as usual, with your setup ready.

    Game ready

A plugin list, not a folder full of DLLs.

Plugin management is part of the game. Open the list, install what you want, and let the launcher resolve the rest. No manual downloads, no version hunting, no separate updater.

  • See what is installed and open each plugin's settings
  • Browse and install packages without leaving the game
  • Remove a plugin from the same list
  • Keep different plugin sets in profiles
  • Let the launcher handle updates
  • No manual dependency downloads

Loadouts
Open it from the main menu. No DLL folders, no separate updater.

Run a server too.

The Linux AppImage runs the dedicated server as well as the client. It downloads the server files, keeps each instance separate, and loads dedicated plugins from the same package list.

  • Headless Linux server
  • Several instances
  • Torch support
  • Docker image with VNC
  • Same plugin system
  • No Steam install on the server
Linux / dedicated server
./CringeLauncher.AppImage --dedicated

First launch fetches the server files. State lives in instance/; use --instance=name to run another server beside it.

Installed in a few moves.

The launcher sits between Steam and Space Engineers. You install it once, then paste one launch argument into the game's Steam properties.

The installer is unsigned, so Windows may warn. That is expected.

  1. 01

    Run the installer

Download and run the Windows setup. The console window that opens contains the launch argument for the next step.

  2. 02

    Copy the launch argument

Keep the path exactly as the installer prints it.

    "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CringeLauncher\current\CringeBootstrap.exe" %command%
  3. 03

    Paste it into Steam

Open Steam, right-click Space Engineers and go to Properties → General → Launch Options. Paste the argument there.

  4. 04

    Launch the game

Start Space Engineers through Steam as usual. The launcher takes it from there.

The setup links to the stable channel. Preview builds are on the download page.

Source and docs are public.

The launcher, the wiki and the plugin templates are out in the open. If something behaves strangely, there is a code path and a support thread for it.
